"Hi, my name is Kate Hooven and I go by the pronouns she and her. I'm from Mechanicsburg, PA and I am Mighty Super Contributor."
"I started by blog The Honesty of Autism eight years ago in order to help other moms and dads who are parenting children with autism and who might be feeling isolated and alone. I was then able then in 2015 to start sharing my blog on The Mighty with enabled me to reach other people in a much larger format – so I am very grateful for that."
My favorite story I've written for The Mighty...
"This is by far my favorite because it symbolizes how much work Ryan, and all autistic individuals, put in to reaching their goals. From the day we first heard 'autism' until this moment, Ryan has gone above and beyond where any 'experts' ever believed he would go. His time, his way."
"To My Son With Autism on His Graduation Day"
She loves kayaking and being anywhere near the water, but hates winter which is why her goal is to one day leave the northeast so she, "can spend more time floating and being warm". She is also a lover of dogs – especially her big yellow lab, Rookie!
"I'm so grateful to my son, Ryan, who is now a freshman in college, for his willingness to share his story on The Mighty. It's so important for parents who are writing about their children to make sure they respect their privacy at all time. Everything I share on The Mighty is shared with Ryan's permission and he hopes it helps others understand that he different not less."
Thanks to Kate, and contributors like her, our Mighty community is what it is.
Thanks for sharing your story, Kate!
